Improved Cow & Calf Health Under Forage Stress

Study EXP 09-02 | Kansas State University | MC100

Key Results:

  • +0.3 increase in cow body condition score, supporting immunity and recovery post-calving
  • +0.38 lb./day late-season calf ADG advantage when forage quality declined
  • +14 lbs. adjusted calf weaning weight
  • +9% timed AI pregnancy rate & +3% overall pregnancy rate, linked to better cow energy balance and reproductive health
  • $67/head economic advantage from combined performance and health improvements
Bar graph titled "Greater Weaning Weights" shows adjusted weaning weight (lbs) for two groups: Control (~625 lbs, gray bar) and Microbial Catalyst (~635 lbs, green bar). The Microbial Catalyst group is higher.
Bar graph showing change in body condition score (BCS) units. The control group has a small increase (~0.07), while the microbial catalyst group has a larger increase (~0.35). P<0.01 indicates statistical significance.
Bar chart titled "Overall Pregnancy Rate" comparing Control and Microbial Catalyst groups. Control has a lower percentage, while Microbial Catalyst reaches about 92%. Percent axis ranges from 87 to 95.

What Producers Are Saying

“Cow had a calf in snowstorm didn’t catch her right away. When I found the calf, I thought she was a goner. Got her bundled up in some dry hay, gave her a shot of Start Strong and when I got back in an hour she was up and going!”

Robert B.

“We calve in early February in Montana and it’s been below zero for long stretches at a time. Start Strong has helped every one of our chilled calves get up and want to nurse. A neighbor told us to try it and I’m glad he did! We won’t be without it again. Very cost effective also!”

Sienna

“We didn’t doctor a single calf for the first 45 days after starting Fight Strong Pellet. Health improved, and weight gains did too. It’s now a permanent part of our program.”
